Leendert de Jonge - flute

Leendert de Jonge – flute
Leendert de Jonge started playing the flute when he was
eight years old. From 1975 to 1981 he studied at the
Sweelinck Conservatory in Amsterdam with Koos
Verheul. Verheul introduced his student to a large
repertoire and allowed his specific sensitivity for purity of
style to develop fully. Leendert de Jonge mastered the
many different styles of flute playing with Michel Debost
in Paris and with Karlheinz Zöller in Hamburg.
Leendert de Jonge has played in first-class musical festivals
such as the Festwochen in Vienna, the Salzburg Festival
and the Holland Festival.
He has taken part in premières with the Ensemble Modern,
the Nieuw Ensemble, Der Blaue Reiter, the Xenakis Ensemble
and the Beau Hunks.
As soloist he has played the role of Neville (Virginia Woolf
The Waves) in A King, Riding by Klaas de Vries and he has
taken part in noteworthy concerts and recordings such as
Prometeo by Luigi Nono and The Beau Hunks play the original
Laurel and Hardy music.
The repertoire for solo flute is the heart of L. de Jonge's
musical career.
He has recorded on CD the works of several composers
who wrote abundantly for flute:
Incantations & Ascèses: pieces for flute solo by André
Jolivet (first CD recording after Jean-Pierre Rampal on
vinyl).
Suites & Partita BWV 1007-1013: probably first played
on viola by Johann Sebastian Bach himself (and which
have since become a gem of the cello repertoire).
Leendert de Jonge reveals a myriad of new dimensions
in these six very beautiful solo suites transcribed for
flute.
Les Chants de Nectaire opus 198, 199 & 200, by Charles
Koechlin: these three series of monodies for flute,
similar to the said Suites of J-S. Bach, are beautifully
rendered by Leendert de Jonge's virtuousity, his rich
sound and extreme sensitivity.

Leendert de Jonge is a multi-talented artist, ever open to
the unexpected in music.
